The final numbers raised by the Cast & Blast fundraiser are in! Every July, Guild Mortgage sponsors the Cast & Blast ‘Day of Adventure’ in Astoria. The Cast & Blast welcomes participants to enjoy sport fishing, skeet shooting, dinner and auction to raise money for local veterans. Now in its 6th year, the event expanded into two days with the goal to increase the funds raised to benefit Forward Assist NW. Formerly the Oregon chapter for Veterans Sportsman Alliance, Forward Assist NW is a local nonprofit that helps veterans and first responders with outreach, assistance and relationship building events.

This year’s event broke from tradition by flipping the order of the activities and separating the event into two days. The fairgrounds events (which included skeet shooting, lawn games, dinner, live and silent auctions) launched at noon on Friday, the 13th of July and ended well into the evening. The event resumed Saturday morning at 6:30 am at the Hampton Inn for registration before attendees embarked at the East Mooring Basin boat launch for the sport fishing segment.

After expenses, the total funds raised added up to $50,158, up over $10,000 from last year! $44,058 will be distributed directly to Forward Assist NW. The charity also delegated an affiliate, Remembering America’s Heroes, to receive the funds raised during the paddle raise portion of the event. Remember America’s Heroes helps young people understand the sacrifices made by those who defend our country. Attendees generously gave $6,100 to that program.

Guild Mortgage volunteers organize and manage the event from the planning stages in mid-winter to the day of the event and afterward. Volunteers also pay for their own transport and lodging to keep event expenses down. Many of the attendees include Guild Mortgage employees, partners and friends. Other sponsors included Appraisal Valet, Stimpson Lumber, Househappy and Bull Mountain Heating & Cooling. We thank everyone who helped make this a success.
