Guild Giving Program | Batesburg Leesville Fire Department | Darrel Long, Columbia Lexington branch

The Southeast Region’s Darrel Long with our Columbia Lexington branch has a very close participation with the Batesburg Leesville Fire Department working as a volunteer firefighter. “The Batesburg-Leesville Fire Department is dedicated to providing top-notch emergency services to the people of the town of Batesburg-Leesville and the surrounding area.  These services include fire suppression, vehicle extrication, medical first responder, basic hazardous materials (operations level) and other services.  The B-L Fire Department also has a series of fire prevention programs designed to educate and inform residents of all ages on the dangers, causes and prevention of fires. These programs include a puppet show/ fire safety house for children and smoke alarms for families with small children and the elderly.”

“Although the B-L Fire Department is a department of the town of Batesburg-Leesville, it also provides automatic aid to both Saluda and Lexington Counties and is part of the South Carolina Firefighter Mobilization program which allows departments to send and receive resources statewide based on need. The department is also a member of the South Carolina Firefighter’s Association, International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), National Volunteer Fire Council (NFVC) and the Society for the Preservation and Appreciation of Antique Motor Fire Apparatus (SPAAMFAA).”

Most recently, the Batesburg Leesville Fire Department held their Annual Golf Tournament to raise funds for the department’s necessities, such as supplies, tools and gear. The department’s main objective is to update all of their truck lighting to LED lighting as it is more effective for on-scene events.

Darrel Long with our Columbia Lexington branch contributed $325 to the fundraiser as a sponsor. Collectively, the event raised over $5,000 and had more than 75 people in attendance. Long has also volunteered a minimum of 30 hours per month to the Batesburg Leesville Fire Department as a firefighter/assistant training officer.

Guild Mortgage Company is proud to foster a culture of giving. We are grateful for folks like Darrel Long who donate their time to helping keep their communities safe. Great work, Darrel!
