In March, the Salt Lake Ops Center provided KFC boxed lunches for families staying at the Ronald McDonald Family Room at Primary Children’s Hospital, where families of children being treated at the hospital, who live outside of the area, are able to stay on-site. We work with them a few times a year, and they are always incredibly thankful for the meals that allow them to take care of themselves while they stay close to their kids. Some families have even been able to bring their child patients with them to enjoy lunch together. It’s an incredibly humbling experience to be able to provide a bit of comfort to these families who are handling intense issues with such grace.
When we go, we have been able to meet and talk with so many wonderful people. Volunteer Kelsie Simmons says, “I always love seeing the sincerity of the families, seeing that they truly do appreciate gestures like this. They all think of their family members staying with them at the hospital and if they weren’t able to join for lunch they always ask if it’s okay to take one to them. You can just tell everyone’s gracious and thoughtful…Very rewarding.”
The director of the program recently reached out to us saying, “We are SO incredibly grateful and thankful for the amazing groups that support our families by serving a meal. We hear constantly from families how thankful they are to have a warm and delicious meal provided and how much they love getting to know the meal groups that come in to the Family Room. Please feel our heartfelt thank you for your generosity and support.”
