The Yuma, Arizona Guild Mortgage branches committed to support a local non-profit superhero: Right Turn For Yuma Veterans.

In the mortgage industry, being challenged is a way of life; whether it is involving a complex loan scenario or competing against other lenders. As a way to give back, the Guild Mortgage Yuma branches participated in their local Yuma Association of Realtors Community Outreach Chain Challenge. The challenge is for the association’s individual members and affiliates to support the Yuma community by donating their time to a charity or cause.

Led by ambassador Yonathan Gutierrez, all of the team members at the Yuma and Yuma Foothills Guild Mortgage branches gathered baskets full of items. They accumulated a truck full of personal hygiene care, blankets, clothing, non-perishables and more.

On delivery day, the team members were greeted by Judy Smith and veterans affiliated with the non-profit. The veterans and Judy really appreciated it. Their tears of joy were priceless!

Right Turn For Yuma Veterans (RTFYV) was established in 2014 to help reduce the homeless veteran population in Yuma County. This local non-profit is under the Child and Family Services, Inc. organization, which is a non-profit agency that has provided quality out-patient counseling services to children and their families since 1979. RTFYV offers long-term, transitional housing in a group home setting for up to eight male veterans who are homeless or at risk of being homeless. RTFYV provides to its veterans mental health counseling, case coordination, transportation and life coaching in the areas of healthy living, financial planning and job seeking skills.

RTFYV not only provides a roof over their head, but the support system necessary to live independently within the Yuma community. A clean, comfortable and safe environment provides veteran residents with a reliable stepping off point for their return to independence.

Additional RTFYV goals:

  • Improving mental/physical health
  • Developing financial independence
  • Re-engagement with their family and community
  • Obtaining military benefits
  • Finding valuable employment/schooling
  • Finding independent living
